No Surprise for Brokeback Mountain

Actually, I was not that surprised that Brokeback Mountain didn't win the Oscar for Best Picture. Consider the plot: two lonely cowboys —sheepherders, really — all alone except for each other and a few thousand sheep with no one else in sight for of thousands of square miles around, and they're both gay?! Doesn't seem too likely or believable. I mean, especially when they could have had all those sheep!

I think the film could have been more interesting if let's say, Ennis goes off for a while to do something and Jack, feeling a bit randy, strikes up a "meaningful relationship" with Ivy, one of the cuter ewes. Well, Ennis comes back and finds out about this. That sets up the eternal triangle thing. Cut to the next scene and we see Ennis roasting lamb on a spit. Now, that would have been a great movie!
